You’re So Fly: Jill Atherton

At the heart of Flywheel is our ongoing celebration and support of the entrepreneurial spirit. Through our commitment to hyperlocal programming, we’ve discovered new and innovative ways to uplift entrepreneurs in communities across the Carolinas. Whether it’s supporting startups or small businesses, our mission is to fuel the innovators behind the ideas. None of this would be possible without the dedication of the Flywheel Foundation, led by Executive Director Jill Atherton.

Can you share a bit about your role and how you ended up with the foundation?

I manage the operations of the foundation including working with startups, volunteers and our board to ensure that the Flywheel Foundation mission is being fulfilled.

What do you enjoy most about your work? What inspires you?

I enjoy working with entrepreneurs to help them meet their goals and address challenges. I am inspired by people who are willing to take on the risk of starting a business.

What advice would you give to aspiring or early stage entrepreneurs?

Plan with the end in mind. In other words, think about your exit strategy from the beginning. Also, be coachable and seek out great mentors.
